What is live cooking?
Updated on
A cooking show in which one or more chefs prepare dishes live in front of guests, who taste them on the spot.
Live cooking (known in Spain as showcooking, or show cooking) means a food format in which one or more chefs prepare dishes live in front of the guests, who watch them being made and taste them on the spot. The kitchen is no longer hidden and becomes part of the show.
What it is used for at a corporate event
It is used at corporate events, special dinners and client or team experiences when you want to offer something different from a conventional drinks reception. It sparks conversation, gives people a reason to come over and leaves them something to remember. It can be a demonstration or an open kitchen serving dishes as they are made. Because it needs space, utilities and a cooking area, it is worth raising early and checking with the venue what can be set up.
How we do it
Our chefs prepare dishes live, combining technique, creativity and flavour. We specialise in Mexican and Peruvian cuisine, with tacos made to order, fresh ceviches and aguachiles, and we also cook other styles, such as Mediterranean, Asian and Italian. See the full details on our private chef and live cooking in Madrid page.
How it differs from related terms
- A live food station is a single live cooking stand within an event (for example, a taco stand); live cooking is the whole concept, with the show as the star.
- Unlike a buffet, the dishes are not already prepared: they are made in front of guests.
- Unlike finger food, the focus is the process of cooking, not the bite.
