What is an office breakfast?
An office breakfast is the light food served before or during a meeting, a training session or a presentation. We prepare it for offices and meeting rooms in Madrid on sweet, savoury or mixed trays, in quantities matched to your attendees, so the meeting never has to stop and wait for the coffee.
A good working breakfast starts from knowing what kind of meeting you have, who is coming and when. Welcoming a client at 9am is not the same as getting through a six-hour training session, and the tray has to show it. So we start from your agenda and choose the menu from there. Behind the service is a stable team of kitchen, logistics and front-of-house staff, and María Lluch Careaga, who founded the business in late 2019; meet María.
If you need more than a breakfast, such as a working lunch, a drinks reception or a corporate event, you will find it under corporate catering in Madrid.
Send us the date, time and number of attendees through the quote form and we’ll reply to your quote within 24–48 h.
Options: sweet, savoury, healthy or mixed
An office breakfast can take four approaches: sweet, savoury, healthy or mixed. Mixed is the safest bet for varied groups, because it has something for every taste and works just as well at 9am as mid-morning. Everything comes from our menu and is adjusted to each meeting.
| Option | Examples from our menu | When it works |
|---|---|---|
| Sweet | Croissants and doughnuts, as in our breakfast boxes; mini brownies with walnuts; homemade sponge cakes (lemon and poppy seed, orange, pumpkin and chocolate marble); mini cheesecakes | Welcoming people to a training session; morning meetings |
| Savoury | Mini rolls (ham and mustard, Spanish omelette, smoked salmon, chicken salad), mini sandwiches (ham and cheese, turkey and rocket, salad), mini croissants filled with ham and cheese or vegetables | Working breakfasts; long meetings |
| Healthy | Fruit skewers, vegetable mini rolls and mini sandwiches, hummus with crudités | Teams who prefer something lighter |
| Mixed | Savoury, sweet and fruit on the same tray | Varied groups, or when you do not know everyone’s preferences |
This is a guide, not a fixed menu: we can personalise it and build it around your meeting. We’ll tell you what each service includes in the proposal.
Coffee break catering: what goes on the table
In general, a coffee break combines hot and cold drinks, a small savoury bite, a sweet one and fruit, all designed to be eaten standing up during a 15 to 30-minute break. Small pieces work best: they are gone in a couple of bites, with no cutlery and no need to sit down.
A typical spread combines:
- Savoury: mini croissants filled with ham and cheese, smoked salmon, crab or vegetables; mini rolls and mini sandwiches.
- Sweet: mini brownies, sponge cakes, mini cheesecakes or little mousse pots.
- Fruit: fruit skewers, easy to pick up and pass round.
- Drinks: we’ll tell you in the proposal which drinks each service includes.
Welcome coffee and corporate coffee breaks
A welcome coffee is the arrival version: a coffee and one or two small bites while people arrive and register, before a full-day session, a conference or a presentation begins. It is shorter than a mid-morning coffee break, and on long days the two are usually combined.
If the break is part of a celebration that is not a company event, such as a public presentation or a party, see our event catering in Madrid.
How breakfast and coffee break catering is priced
Breakfasts and coffee breaks are priced per head, depending on the number of pieces, the variety, the drinks, the tableware and the number of attendees. When you tell us about your meeting, we send you the option that best fits it. Pieces per head, the biggest factor, are in the table below.
To see the method before you ask us for anything, our guide to catering prices in Madrid explains it step by step.
Coffee break quantities: how much to allow
Working out a coffee break starts from three things: how long the break lasts, what time it is and whether lunch follows. The figures below are indicative industry norms, not a commitment or a María Lluch Catering rate; we fine-tune the exact quantity with you when preparing the order.
For your own headcount, use the quantity calculator.
| Format | Savoury pieces per person | Sweet pieces per person | Drinks per person |
|---|---|---|---|
| Welcome coffee (on arrival, about 15 min) | 1-2 | 1 | 1 coffee or herbal tea |
| Mid-morning coffee break (20-30 min) | 1-2 | 2 | 1-2 (plus water) |
| Full working breakfast (45-60 min) | 2-3, plus fruit | 2 | 2 (coffee or herbal tea and juice, plus water) |
How to adjust it:
- Allow more if the training is intensive or if, for many attendees, this will be the first thing they eat that day.
- Allow less if a working lunch follows.
- Always count speakers and support staff, and leave a little extra for second helpings.
For other formats and larger groups, the quantity calculator in our guide gives you a first estimate.
Diets, allergens and healthy options
At an office breakfast, it pays to let us know about your group’s diets in good time. For a lighter version, we can put more weight on fruit, vegetable items and hummus with crudités than on pastries. Every dish has its own allergen sheet; if anyone has an allergy or intolerance, tell us and we’ll adapt the menu.
Which meetings it suits
Office breakfasts are mostly ordered for training sessions, team meetings, client presentations and deal signings. The type of meeting decides the format: a long training day calls for a welcome coffee on arrival and a mid-morning break; a client meeting, for a short, well-presented selection.
- Training sessions and full-day events: a break on arrival and another mid-morning.
- Team and management meetings: savoury and sweet trays in the meeting room itself, so nobody has to step out.
- Client presentations: a carefully presented working breakfast, which also says something about your company.
- Deal signings: a few elegant pieces, easy to eat while the papers are signed.
If the meeting also takes in lunch or grows into an event, take a look at our corporate catering.
How ordering and delivery work
Ordering an office breakfast takes four steps: you tell us the date, time, address and number of attendees; we send you a quote; you confirm; and we deliver the breakfast to your office or meeting room at the agreed time. Just fill in the form with what you need.
- Tell us about your meeting: date, time, number of people and address.
- Receive your quote: menu, quantities and terms.
- Confirm: we adjust anything that needs adjusting.
- Delivery: we bring the breakfast to your office or meeting room.
Terms of service:
- Order lead time: We recommend requesting it at least 72 hours in advance; on high-demand dates, with more time.
- Minimum order: the minimum depends on the service; we’ll confirm it in the quote.
- Delivery area: Madrid city and nearby towns (Alcobendas, Pozuelo, Las Rozas…); weekends with prior coordination.
- Delivery times: we agree the delivery time with you when we prepare the proposal.
- Logistics: We take care of everything: transport, set-up, tableware, waiting staff if you need them and clearing away afterwards.
- Invoicing your company: we invoice your company in its name.
Recurring orders
If breakfasts or coffee breaks come round often at your company and you need a recurring service, tell us and we’ll talk it through when we prepare the proposal.
Request information or a quote for your office breakfast
Tell us what the meeting is, when it is and how many people will be there, and we will suggest the breakfast that suits it best. We’ll reply to your quote within 24–48 h. If you are unsure about the format or quantities, call us and we will help you decide.

Frequently asked questions
What does a coffee break include?
A coffee break pairs hot drinks (coffee, herbal teas) and cold ones (water, juice) with small pieces you can eat standing up and without cutlery: pastries, something savoury such as mini rolls or filled croissants, and fruit. It usually lasts 15 to 30 minutes and is set up next to the meeting room, so nobody loses the thread of the day.
How much does a coffee break cost per person?
The price is a per-head rate multiplied by the number of attendees, plus whatever services are needed, but the quantity can be fixed in advance. As an indicative industry benchmark, a coffee break for 50 people comes to about 150 pieces (one savoury and two sweet per person) and a full working breakfast to about 200, plus drinks and fruit. These figures come from the calculator in our [price guide](/en/catering-prices-madrid/); they are not fixed María Lluch Catering portions. The price of your meeting depends on the format, the number of attendees and the staff: request information or a quote and we'll prepare it for you.
What does an executive breakfast include?
An executive breakfast, or working breakfast, is more substantial than a coffee break and is designed to be eaten during the meeting without interrupting it. It usually includes a selection of savoury items (mini rolls, mini sandwiches, filled croissants), something sweet, fruit, and hot and cold drinks. The quantity depends on the time of day and on whether lunch follows.
What do I need to set up a coffee break at the office?
A free table or surface near the meeting room, and a clear idea of the number of attendees and the exact time of the break. It also helps to let reception know, so the trays can come straight in. We'll tell you what each service includes in the proposal.
How far in advance should I order an office breakfast?
Get in touch as soon as you know the date, time and number of attendees, even if not everything is settled yet, and we will point you in the right direction. We recommend requesting it at least 72 hours in advance; on high-demand dates, with more time.
What is the minimum order?
The minimum order depends on the service; we'll confirm it in the quote. If your meeting is small, tell us anyway when you request a quote: we will tell you honestly whether we can do it and how to make it worth your while.
